A CENTURY OF TRADITION
The Rota Winery has a land of about 40 hectares or 100 acres of vines. The Majority of this land is in the fraction of Castellazzo, and a small part in the hills nearby. It is located in the heart of the Lambrusco, Balsamic Vinegar and Parmigiano Reggiano region.
The Rota Winery is one of the very few winemakers with a private winery. The activities of the winery contains all phases of grape production, of it’s Transformation into wine and finally it’s introduction to the market. Those are all Agricultural, Industrial and marketing activities all under one management, to maximise quality control.We produce sustainable, sincere and quality wines, mostly Lambrusco and Ancellotta.
The company’s mentality is sustainability and self-sufficiency all work is carried out by the winery’s own personnel. Our solar panel plant Provides us with more than enough energy to operate the winery and a state Of the art biomass system for wood recovery provides our winery and the Nearby located Agriturism.
FROM THE 20’S, THREE GENERATIONS, 100 YEARS OF HISTORY
The Rota Winery was founded after the first World War, between 1918 and 1923, the date is not yet certain.
Roberto Rota, born in 1883, son of Enrico Rota created a winery in the Town of Arceto (Reggio Emilia). Unfortunately he went bankrupt in 1930 Following the 1929 financial crisis.
During that time, his son, Benso Rota started working in the winery at the Early age of only 10 years. It was there were he first developed his passion And knowledge for grapes and wine.
50’s
After the second World War Benso Rota, a talented entrepreneur managed To escape poverty firstly renting a facility and finally purchasing land and
An old winery in the town of Castellazzo. In 1960 the winery was renovated On top of the old one’s foundations to become state of the art for the time. Built of 3 levels plus a basement it had a total holding capacity of 50.000 hL.
70’s
The 60’s and the 70’s were years of great economic development for Benso Who build a great part of his fortune and reputation buying almost
250 hectares (620 acres) of land in the Lambrusco region and transformed His business from commercial to agricultural
2004
In 2004, his son Dario Rota, an architect and the youngest of 5 brothers Was called by his old father to help, being unable to run the business on His own. During the 90’s the winery faced a stage of being nearly Abandoned as no further investments and maintenance were made. Dario regardless of his inexperience put all his passion and energy and in A few years he built an Agriturism on the old property and modernised The winery equipments raising again to today’s standards.
TODAY
Today the Rota winery continues to produce wholesale wines and sell
It to other wineries. Only a small quantity of selected wines is kept in order
To produce a limited line of top quality bottles, including Lambrusco and Ancellotta IGP. The wines are currently exported in the US, China, Sweden, Greece and Australia.
